Celebrating Book Week and the Easter Fayre

Hello Y1 Moms and Dads!

Firstly, I’d like to send out a big thanks to everyone for remembering to send the children to school in their pyjamas today to kick off our GIS Book week. There is nothing quite like a special bedtime story to highlight the importance or reading, and thanks for helping us set the scene by sending the kids to school in their PJ’s.

We have a wide range of exciting activities in store this week to celebrate reading, and we have something special planned each and every day this week. We have had some GIS parents volunteer to come in to participate in our “Mystery Reader” activity. Various teachers and parents will be stopping by classrooms this week to read a special story, so thanks to any of you guys that may be popping by the school. We’ve got 2 mystery readers coming in to visit Year 1 this week and the students are very excited.

Also, GIS is very excited to include the kind folks from Scholastic this year, who have come and set up a bookstore in the Hall across the road from the First School. We visited the mobile bookstore this morning and the children were allowed to pick out one book to go on their wishlist. Envelopes will be coming home later today, and please make sure to return them tomorrow if you wish to allow the kids to purchase their selected books. I would like to point out that this is totally voluntary, so please don’t feel obligated to make the purchase unless of course you want to get the books they picked out this morning.

Then, on Friday for the final day of Book week we are asking that all the students come to school dressed as a character from their favourite story. The teachers will be dressed up as well, and we will be looking for interesting and creative costumes come Friday morning. There will be prizes for the best dressed book characters, so i’m hoping Year 1 will win the day. 🙂

Finally, on Saturday from 9AM-noon we will be having our annual GIS school Fayre. There will be games, prizes, shopping, singing and good food available all morning long. The theme this year is “Easter Eggstravaganza” so we are inviting students to come and celebrate the day in Easter bonnets. We are reallly looking forward to the event, so please make sure you come join the fun.

See you Saturday!

Mr. Tom
