Welcome to The 2nd Half of Term 2 ^__^

Hi Moms and Dads,

Welcome back to our Spring 2nd Half Term here in Year 1 at Garden International School, and I hope you all had a good break! We talked a little bit about our holiday trips this morning during circle time and it certainly sounds like everyone made the most of the time off we got to enjoy last week.

As with last term all children will be read with daily through adult led guided reading sessions. The books read in this time will continue to go home daily and please make sure you at least sign the green reading records to let me know you’ve practiced the book at home. Also, I’d like to point out that our Library books will continue to be sent home on a weekly basis each Monday and will only need to be returned before the following Friday. Again, i’d like to stress that the reading book system works best when parents have at least signed the reading records to let me know that you are reading at home with them as well.

Spellings will of course continue to be sent home on Mondays and need to be learnt for the following Friday ready for the weekly spelling tests. Also, i will be changing the format of the spelling tests this Friday, as the words will now be called out of order to make the testing a little more challenging. 🙂

Finally, you should have received a letter yesterday afternoon regarding a very special upcoming event here at GIS. We will be participating in the World Education Games again this year, and we have already started practicing online at their website to get the kids ready to compete. This is a super fun event to take part in and the contest will take place over 3 days next week from Tuesday the 6th till Thursday the 8th of March 2012. The children will be competing in an online forum against children from all across the globe simultaneously sitting in ICT labs at schools around the world. The children will bring home their individual passwords and login id’s in order for you to allow them time to practice at home as well. Students that do exceptionally well in the event will be awarded certificates and the donations raised over the 3 days this year will all go for the outstanding charity organization known as UNICEF.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me or let me know here on the blog. So, I will keep our website updated with any new information throughout the term ahead and i’m looking forward to someof the exiciting things we’ve got in store this half term, leading up to Songkran!
