Half term already? Where does the time go?

Hello Moms and Dads!  It’s hard to believe that we’re already half way through the 2nd term, but I guess it’s true what they say….time flies when your having fun! We’ve had a great first half of Term 2 here in Year 1 and the students are certainly a bright bunch this year. We’ve gotten all the way through Phase 2 of our Letters and Sounds this first half and all the kids seem to be sailing along at a steady pace.

Last week we also took a look at the basic ordinal numbers 1st -10th and worked on recognizing their written names in association with the  correct place value. Then children finished off on Friday with a quick worksheet on their knowledge of ordinal numbers and 99% of the kids scored perfectly. 🙂

Also, to finish off our visit to Thailand with Barnaby Bear, we took a look at some of China’s cute and cuddly Panda Bears. We talked a little bit about their habitats, diet and explored a panda bear version of the classic Goldilocks and the 3 bears story. We also made some panda masks in our art class to carry the topic theme across the curriculum for a little subject linkage. it was a fun project, and I’m sure you’ve already seen those cute masks as they made  their way home to you yesterday.

As you may have heard, we celebrated a super fun birthday with our little Pieter when he turned 5 last week. We sang “Happy Birthday” to him on several occasions throughout the day to make his day that much extra special. Speaking of birthdays…I’d just like to say that when your child’s birthday rolls around please feel free to bring a cake in for us to celebrate with them in class. Just send me an email, and I’ll get back to you A.S.A.P. with the best time to come in for those keepsake photo moments. It is completely optional of course, so just let me know in advance if you’d like to make their day a little extra festive.

Finally, please be a little extra aware of any sniffles or coughs that develop this time of the year. A lot of cold and flu bugs go around this time of the year as the season transitions from “cool” to “summer.” Some of our little guys have been out sick over the past couple of weeks and I want to thank you for being conscious and keeping them home till they are better. Thanks so much as always for your support and help! 🙂

Finally, I’d like to wish you a wonderful half term break with your family.  If you are traveling please be safe, and I shall see you all again when we return to school on Monday the 27th!
